The Run for Rare Disease Research is a 5k and 1 mile run/walk to help raise money for rare disease research. It is a very fun way to get some exercise and do something good for your community!
Our Mission
About Rare Diseases: In the United States, a disease is considered rare when it affects fewer than 200,000 Americans. However, because there are over 7,000 different rare diseases, more than 30 million Americans are affected . Think about this; that's nearly 1 in 10 Americans! Despite this, rare diseases have a hard time competing for research dollars. And the need is very real - most children with rare diseases don't live to see their 5th birthday.
This is why we are trying to raise awareness and research dollars for rare diseases. Please help us with our cause!
Meet Harry: Harry is a 1o year old boy in our community with a uniquely happy disposition and a strong desire to make others laugh. As the youngest of four boys, he's needed his humor to be heard, and to deal with the challenges of a rare and irreversible lung disease, known as Obliterative Bronchiolitis. Harry was struck out of the blue a couple of years ago and left with permanent scar tissue and only 30% lung capacity. As a result, he is constantly breathless and needs supplemental oxygen wherever he goes. While it's certainly no fun to be a kid who can't run and play, Harry's indomitable spirit keeps him smiling. There are currently no FDA approved treatments for kids like Harry, so his family and friends are working hard to fund new research for a cure, and to help Harry share his magical joy.
Please Donate! All money raised at this event goes directly to The Center for Rare Childhood Disorders where it is used to research rare diseases.
